Gran Turismo 5: Then and Now

February 15, 2010 Written by Kishen Patel

Gran Turismo, the epitome of racing simulators, has been crowned accordingly due to its impeccable physics, life-like realism, quantity of cars, and graphical achievements. While Gran Turismo 5: Prologue was impressive to most, a comparison to the latest from Polyphony shows us that the final product is where the beauty is at.

Looking at comparison shots of the same areas between Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and the latest GT Academy, we see that the development cycle saw a revamp in textures and re-envisioned realism to stray away from its “realer-than-real” visuals. Check it out in the shots below.

In each image, the top represents the Gran Turismo  Academy build and the bottom captures the title’s offering from almost two years ago. As we can see, there is a greater level of gritty realism, debris, and smoothness. But we’ll let you be the judge in the comments section: how do you think the graphics have evolved?
