Sony: Arc will have more Games than Natal

For better or worse it seems that ‘motion controllers’ seem are the future of gaming, all thanks to the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Wii. Forget a rock, you’d have to had been living under a mountain if you didn’t know Both Sony and Microsoft are introducing their own motion gizmos this Fall. While Microsoft has all the buzz right now, Sony is laying down the proverbial gauntlet and is ready to talk some smack about why they believe their ‘Arc’ will have more games than Natal.

In an interview with IndustryGamers, SCEA’s Senior VP of Publisher Relations, Rob Dyer stated that he believes the currently code named ‘Arc’ controller will have more games than Natal simply because it will be easier to develop for.

It’s easier to develop for. You can use the same code base that you currently use for PS3 or 360 or even the Wii in order to get a motion controller game out. You can’t do that with Natal.

Makes sense to me. Whoa..wait..go back and read that ‘Even the Wii’. Uh oh. We all know that the major complaint of the Wii is that tons and tons of shovelware titles are dumped on the system each and every month. We certainly don’t want our favorite console of choice to have crappy ‘Imagine Baby Party games’, do we?

Then again, the PS3 does lack appeal to younger gamers and “Arc” could certainly help to give the PlayStation 3 a more family friendly image. I know that PS3 owners tend to be more hardcore than the other two systems, but if  the Arc/Gem/Whatever it’s called succeeds, it could be a major advantage for Sony in the overall Console War.

I think we can all agree on one thing: when you combine Sony’s Motion Controller along with all the major exclusives and multi-platforms hitting between now and the end of the 2010, it’s going to be an amazing year to be a PlayStation Fan!
