EA Officially Announce Latest Shooter; Bulletstorm

EA are known for being behind some of the best shooters out in the market. Titles such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the upcoming Medal of Honor help fill out an already great portfolio for Electronic Arts. The company hope to continue that with a newly announced shooter, entitled: “Bulletstorm”.

Epic Games, People Can Fly and Electronic Arts Inc. have today confirmed the development of Bulletstorm, a new original “intellectual property” from the teams behind the award-winning highly-popular Unreal Tournament, Gears of War, and Painkiller series. Bulletstorm brings a whole new style to first-person shooters with its signature ‘kill with skill’ gameplay which distinguishes itself from other shooters.

Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps is delighted to be working with the game and alongside its partners:

Bulletstorm is the kind of game we love to make because it’s pure, unadulterated entertainment. People Can Fly has created a wildly fun first-person shooter that looks gorgeous running on the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology, and the skillshot system is a welcome addition to the genre. We can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to seeing Bulletstorm.

Players step into the role of the game’s protoginist, Grayson Hunt, who is equipped with an arsenal of “over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns.” The game will also feature ‘skillshots’; a gameplay element which produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for causing mayhem in the most creative way possible. By successfully carrying out ‘skillshot’s players collects points which then can be used to upgrade their character and unlock weapons – leading to execute even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots.

Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners, David DeMartini said:

We’re very excited to work with Epic Games and People Can Fly on this new project. The first time we laid eyes on Bulletstorm, we instantly knew this is going to be the next big hit from these two great studios delivering yet again an entirely new experience for shooter fans.

Bulletstorm is described as one of “next year’s most anticipated original games” and will be released across multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 3, in 2011.
