Final Fantasy XIV Looking to Remain a Console Exclusive

Final Fantasy XIV was one of Square Enix’s biggest show titles at E3 this year. While the game was originally announced as a console exclusive to the PS3, many have wondered if Microsoft’s competing console will be seeing the game at some point. According to the creator of the title, it seems the title might end up being a console exclusive after all.

During an interview between Eurogamer and Final Fantasy XIV director Hiromichi Tanaka, Hiromichi expressed that Xbox Live’s structure is not a proper environment for a title such as Final Fantasy XIV. During the interview, Hiromichi stated the following:

“The main reason why we couldn’t go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system…”

He continued:

“Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live.”

Unless Microsoft make some significant changes to Xbox Live we should expect to see Final Fantasy XIV remain on the PS3 and PC platforms exclusively. The free architecture of the PSN environment is perfect for a subscription-based MMORPG such as FFXIV, and with implementations such as PlayStation Plus and Home, the title could add a lot to the PlayStation environment as a whole.

Look out for Final Fantasy XIV later this year.
