Sony Says Home Has Been a Huge Success, Quite Profitable

Even though PlayStation 3’s virtual world service, PlayStation Home, has been in beta since its release a few years ago, Sony has said that the virtual PlayStation universe has been a huge success as well as being a profitable venture for the company.

PlayStation Home boss, Jack Buser, told Gamasutra the success of PlayStation Home so far and revealed the service has been quite profitable and it’s a very good business model for PlayStation.

With numbers like we have, it goes without saying that Home has been a huge success for our company, something that we have been very proud of.

We’ve released over 5,000 virtual items on the platform, and we know that once those items reach maturity, they are profitable. So you see us creating a tremendous amount of virtual items, because it is such a high margin business for us to be in.

Other tidbits of information from Buser included the fact that an average Home user invests at least 70 minutes per session.

As of last month, PlayStation Home has acquired an accumulation of over 14 million users.

Do you frequently visit PlayStation Home or think it’s a waste of time? Any suggestions for which you would like to see improved in the Home? Let us know via the comments section below.
