Arkham Asylum’s Detective Vision Was a ‘Mistake’

The detective vision capability featured in the award-winning Batman: Arkham Asylum was certainly the most useful tool in Batman’s arsenal, thanks to it giving players the edge needed to get the jump on your enemies. However, the game’s art director, David Hego recently spoke at Develop 2010 and mentioned that he regrets the decision to integrate the X-ray styled mode into the critically-acclaimed game, and that it made the game too easy.

Hego joked during his keynote that players who would use the detective vision throughout the course of the whole game made him “want to cry a little bit.” Hego explained:

“It was a gameplay decision to make detective vision so strong…we’re going to try not to do that mistake again.”

Hego continued to talk about how the detective vision could potentially be toned down for the sequel by stating Rocksteady would “make it more like augmented reality next time”.

What are your views on the game’s detective vision feature? Did you use it frequently? Think they should keep it for the sequel? Let us know via the comments section below.
