Codemasters Comes Down with a Case of Sequelitis

Codemasters is preparing to release F1 2011 this September and along with that they also announced earlier this year that the Dirt series would be getting a follow up. It sure seems as though Codemasters is hedging their bets on established franchises and they don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

Jame MacDonald, SVP of production for Codemastsers, has told Develop that both Grid and Operation Flashpoint will both be seeing new games.

In Southam it’s full steam ahead with the next iteration in our Flashpoint series, as well as the next Dirt and Grid. It’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.

McDonald also talks about what the other two Codemasters studios are working on.

We’ve got a major launch with F1 coming up in September and developed at our Birmingham studio, and we hope to draw new IP from there. Our Guildford studio is working hard on Bodycount, and we will be looking to to take that franchise further and further with the addition of more IP.

He also talks about how they are looking to expand all three studios.

We are currently in the middle of a major recruitment drive across all three of those sites. There will be major expansion in that sense over the coming year.

With the previous two Dirt’s as well as Grid getting some pretty high praises from those who have played them, it isn’t very surprising to see those getting sequels. Hopefully the next iterations of all there franchise will be just as good as the previous versions.
