Uncharted Movie Story Might Not Line Up With Games

December 3, 2010 Written by Paulmichael Contreras

The recent casting of Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake for the Uncharted movie has had caused some fans to worry that the movie will be nothing like the game. Now, the latest bit of news regarding the storyline of the film may make matters worse for some of you. A hint – fans of the games’ stories may not be pleased.

According to director David O. Russell, in an interview with the LA Times, while the story centers around Nathan Drake, it will also include his family. This family, which was not mentioned at all during the two entries in the game series so far, consists of other thieves who deal with various people of important status:

This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities…that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice.

These new characters may be roles for other actors such as Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro to fill. Mr. Russell explained a bit more on why he feels this family dynamic should work well:

We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now…And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.

The script is approximately halfway done, and although no release date has been given yet, Russell stated progress on the script is like “a locomotive.” Rest assured PlayStation LifeStyle will stay with this story as it develops.
