New Darkstalkers, Capcom Vs. SNK Are Ways Off

Capcom has been extremely busy creating fighting games such as Super Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. With the  recent resurgence of fighting games, fans have wondered when they might see sequels to some of Capcom’s other titles. The answer? Not in the immediate future.

Christian Svensson (Capcom’s US Vice President), alluded to the reason being something Capcom doesn’t have enough of these days: time. Svensson stated why titles such as Capcom Vs. SNK 3 aren’t currently in development:

Right now we’re focused on Street Fighter X Tekken, SSFIV: 3D Edition, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and maybe something else somewhere… that’s more than enough fighting products for an audience to digest in the near term without overly cannibalizing each other.

Svensson added that they “…only have so many development resources” but he didn’t rule a sequel entirely. Svensson left the door open by saying:

Lastly, it takes years to make a game (that’s multiple years), even an HD Remix, so while we may get to them some day, that day is still likely to be a ways off.

Capcom doesn’t appear to be stopping development on it’s fighting games anytime soon; fans may just have to play the waiting game.
