Final Fantasy XIII-2 Announced For PS3, 360

At its First Production Department Premier conference in Japan, publisher Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 for the PS3 and 360.

Motomu Toriyama, director of FFXIII, will return, along with producer Yoshinori Kitase. The game will feature “a battle system which has evolved further since XIII,” and an new story that follows on from FFXIII. The first trailer showed a new character alongside Lightning, as shown in the logo.

Square Enix is promising big things for the game, saying it “exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect”. They stated:

“Final Fantasy XIII-2 is currently in production with an aim for producing high quality game content which exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect; namely, a brand-new story which stems from the previous title as well as a battle system which has evolved further since XIII – and more,”

Continuing:

“We will be disclosing further details about the new game in the future.”

FFXIII-2 will hit North America and Europe this year, set to release “next winter.”
