“Gamers Want HD Console MMOs” Says Sony

DC Universe Online has seen an impressive start so far, selling out at many retail locations. Sony has spoken up about the game, and has given its reasoning for the fledgling MMO’s success.

Speaking with MCV shortly before the game’s release, Senior Product Manager Ian Vinten stated that “Consumers don’t just want the MMOs on their home computers,” elaborating further what particular characteristics make DCUO unique:

There is demand for the playing these games on the PS3 in the living room using high definition TVs and surround sound setups. When you combine this with the pull of the authentic DC experience written by comic industry heavyweights such as Jim Lee, Geoff Johns and Marv Wolfman, we’re confident success will follow.

It is now evident that most of these statements are true, since the game has been well-received so far. Time will tell if players will stick around and pay the subscription fee, but given the good reception so far, it appears that the game will have legs to stand on after all.
