Multiple Oddworld HD Titles In The Works

The Oddworld series had quite a following on the original PlayStation. Though there were only two titles released on the PS1, the other 2 were exclusive to the Microsoft Xbox. In a recent interview with the president of Oddworld Inhabitants, Lorne Lanning, he revealed some information that anyone who missed the Xbox games will be excited about.

Apparently, there are more than one HD remake in the works in regards to the Oddworld series. In the upcoming issue of EGM magazine (on newsstands Feb. 14), Lanning had this to  say on the upcoming releases within the series:

Abe HD is going into production. It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer.

So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?’

Then the previously Xbox-exclusive Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, is now headed to the PSN as well:

For Stranger, it’s the same game, but being re-done.

Lanning further explained:

All the normal maps and the PS3 rendering tech is being taken advantage of on all the characters and on the environments, so it’s been really cool to see how well that’s coming along. We never had it on [PS2], and the rendering capability of the PS3 speaks for itself, so if we can get the game experience on there, there’s nothing else like Stranger on Sony.

At the moment, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is exclusive to both the PSN and PC; the Xbox 360 version is being held back by size restrictions on the Xbox Marketplace.

We have Stranger all ready to go on Xbox LIVE Arcade, but the answer keeps being no. We’re still talking to them and we’re hoping to work it out.
