Gran Turismo 5: Prologue Reaches the Finish Line

Yes, Gran Turismo 5‘s baby brother is finally going to be laid to rest. The pre-release title lived a good life, but as we all know, all things must come to an end.

After two and a half years on American store shelves as well as one of the first Blu-Ray to PlayStation Network games, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue will soon be losing all online functionality. Actually, it’s more like three full years, because Polyphony Digital just announced today that the servers will be shut down on June 30th, 2011. Not bad, considering the fact that Prologue is one of the highest selling PlayStation 3 titles to date. What’s more of an achievement however, is that the full version of Gran Turismo 5 is actually the highest selling PS3 exclusive game of all time while only having been on the market for two and a half months.

So yes, it will definitely be a solemn day for racing fans everywhere as Prologue holds a special place in their hearts. But chances are if you enjoyed the demi-game, you are probably one of the 5.5 million people that already own the full version of GT5. And if not, what’s stopping you? Go on. Read the review. Then get ready to burn some rubber.
