GDC 2011 Sees Record Number of Visitors, 2012 Event Dated

While the Game Developer’s Conference may not be filled with the same level of megaton announcements as E3, the event is host to numerous developer focused sessions, as well as a yearly keynote, which all play a vital part in the growth of the games industry. On top of the sessions, publisher’s hold many preview events for the press, letting us have an early look at some of the year’s biggest titles (many of which you will see in the coming week). Despite a troubled economy, and the rapidly changing landscape of the games industry, the 25th iteration of GDC has most certainly been a success, with record attendance beating out previous GDC’s.

Over 19,000 people visited the San Francisco Event in 2011, according to event organiser ThinkServices, up 1,000 over last year’s event – setting a new record for the show. GDC Director, Meggan Scavio gave an expectedly glowing account of the event:

The past week of GDC truly embodied the passion and spirit of the video game community.

From seasoned game veterans to aspiring game professionals in areas spanning social and online games through major console titles and beyond, we are honored to continue to serve the industry.

On top of announcing the huge visitor figures, ThinkServices have revealed the dates of next year’s GDC, with the event running from Monday, March 5 – Friday, March 9, 2012.
