Tron Charges into MotorStorm; Free DLC to Follow

April 9, 2011 Written by Tyler Minarik

MotorStorm: Apocalypse has only recently hit shelves in most of the world, and has yet to release in North America, but that hasn’t stopped Evolution Studios from producing free DLC for it.

Announced earlier today by Matt Southern and Jamie Brayshaw earlier today, multiple DLC packs are impending, and several of them carry the favorite consumer characteristic of being free. During a chat on PlayStation’s Ireland Facebook page, the duo told fans that they would be seeing two major free updates. It seems the play, create, share slogan has really caught on, since the first of these additions is a mode editor. This will allow players to create their own modes for use online, and the most popular modes created are planned on eventually being integrated with the official modes playlist for the game. Every player should be able to find or create a racing or objective event they enjoy, but it is limited with making modes, and no level editing will be involved.

Almost as if to compensate for the lack of a level editor, the other piece of free content will be on an island with a prison, similar to Alcatraz. Multiple tracks will run through the area, giving players more than just one extra to overtake their opponents in.

Also, a Tron inspired vehicle is on the way. No mention was made regarding a price for the vehicle, but it is looking pretty sweet, and hopefully is just as fun to drive as it is to look at. Finally, to make sure that driving experience remains as fun as possible, a patch will update the steering wheel compatibility. Hopefully this gives players what they’re looking for when it comes to the feeling of plowing their vehicles through buildings and hugging tight turns.

Unfortunately, there was no word on when this DLC would be hitting the PlayStation Store, but that’s not terribly surprising considering the delays the game has suffered. Many are still waiting on word for when we’ll see the racer in North America, so it would seem unusual to hear about the DLC dates first. Be sure that PlayStation LifeStyle will let you know as soon as any updates are announced regarding either MotorStorm: Apocalypse or the accompanying DLC.
