Shang Tsung’s Dark Background Revealed

The new Mortal Kombat game is just a few weeks away, and NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer detailing Shang Tsung’s back story to hold us over for the full game.

For anyone who is unfamiliar, Shang Tsung is the deadly wizard who’s role throughout the Mortal Kombat tournaments has been to do whatever is necessary to ensure Outworld’s victory. The deceptive wizard consumes the souls of his opponents after victory, which helps retain his youth and life force, as well as bestowing their thoughts and memories to him. The following video depicts his arrival to Outworld, and how he became subservient to Shao Kahn. It also shows some of his moves, and the most notable of these is the return of his shape shifting abilities.

Apparently in some of the more recent Mortal Kombat games Shang Tsung’s doppelganger moves were left out due to a lack of memory, but it seems that is no longer a problem. There’s just a little under two weeks left until release day, with Mortal Kombat scheduled to hit shelves April 19 in the US and April 21 in the UK. Are you ready to battle to the death, and munch on some tasty souls at the winner’s table?
