Hydrophobia Prophecy Splashing Down on the PSN
Dark Energy Digital have announced that their previously XBLA exclusive Hydrophobia is being released for the PlayStation Network and Steam as Hydrophobia Prophecy. This release is not just a port but more of a reinvention which features upgraded graphics, new gameplay mechanics, new levels, a reworked back story, a new ending, new voice acting, and even more.
For those without an Xbox 360, Hydrophobia is a survival-adventure game set in the 21st century where the world has fallen into chaos. You play an Engineer named Kate Wilson who is aboard a boat called the Queen of the World when it is attacked by terrorist. It is now your job to save them while dealing with the water everywhere, which is made very realistic by the game’s HydroEngine.
Dark Energy Digital’s Pete Jones had this to say about the game and why it’s more than a port.
We could’ve just ported Hydrophobia Pure [from Xbox LIVE Arcade] over to Steam and PSN after the positive response it received, but we decided to go much further. The community really blew us away with the incredible response to Hydrophobia Pure and the outstanding level of feedback on the listening post, so we wanted to return the favor and ensure we created a bigger and better experience in every possible respect with Hydrophobia Prophecy for Steam and PSN.
Jones also goes into a player feedback system called Darknet, which gives gamers the ability to send opinions to Dark Energy Digital at any point during the game.
In the modern, interconnected world we think there should be better lines of communication between players and developer, which is exactly what Darknet delivers. Gamers have shown us how much they appreciated being involved in the development process and we have responded. We’re really excited to be bringing Hydrophobia Prophecy and Darknet to PC using Steamworks because the ability to update the game seamlessly and regularly through Steam is a perfect fit for our commitment to acting upon feedback from the community. It also means we can update the Darknet system itself to ensure we continually adapt to serve players who want to participate more effectively.
Hydrophobia Prophecy will be releasing first on Steam May 9th and then later on the PSN. Check out the initial screenshots below and stay with us as more news of this game releases.
