Japan’s Sales Charts Take Gamers by the Hand

The 3DS is a tricky puzzle to solve right now. Its software has a hard time making the charts, but in recent times it has slipped a couple into the top three, even being the king of the mountain at times. In the most recently published Media Create charts, it’s again a 3DS game that finds itself without any company at the top; the next 3DS game doesn’t show up until number 17, with Dead or Alive Dimensions.

PS3’s Warriors: Legend of Troy went on sale in Japan this last week and was met with retail success, hitting second place while selling over 30 thousand units. Apparently Cameron’s warning didn’t have much impact on these guys.

Musical psuedo-RPG Patapon 3 continues to enjoy its reserved chair in the top 10; it’s been there ever since its mid-April release and has sold over 100 thousand copies during its run. Fellow PSP game Akiba’s Trip drops from first place to fourth; the cooky take on zombie hunting has shifted well over 70k in the last two weeks.

Hardware charts told the same story they’ve been telling for months. That is to say, the PSP rules the roost, the 3DS isn’t yet the dominating force Nintendo hoped it would be, and the PS3 consistently third place. Here are the numbers:

PSP – 33,609

3DS – 24,283

PS3 – 15,987

Wii – 7,438

DSi LL – 5,197

DSi – 5,106

Xbox 360 – 2,303

PS2 – 1,274

DS Lite – 139

PSP go – 76

June is a month with a whole heck of a lot of highly anticipated PlayStation software landing in stores, so I’d expect PS3 to make a surge over the next few weeks.
