July 19, 2011 Written by Cameron Teague

THQ has announced that Voltron: Defender of the Universe–which was originally revealed back in February–will be releasing on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this October. While Transformers may have taken center stage in the ’80s, Voltron was another animated cartoon series centered around five space explorers who just happened to pilot robotic lions who could combine to form Voltron.

The game will feature co-op for two players offline or 5 player online. Players will select their lion of choice based on strengths, resistances, and other such attributes you should expect in games now. Clips from the original cartoon series will also be featured in the game, helping with the nostalgia factor.

THQ had this to say about the game:

Voltron fans can finally relive some of the most defining moments from the classic series, or even introduce a new generation of young space explorers, as they command any of the individual Lions or even team up to form Voltron and wield his epic blazing sword.

To celebrate this great news, THQ has released a trailer of the game so enjoy below.
