Paul Hellquist, a game designer at Gearbox, has shared some info about the upcoming Borderlands 2, claiming that it will be bigger and better on a number of levels.

According to Hellquist, in an interview with Game Informer, the team plans to ramp up the game’s overall scope and story.

The story missions in Borderlands 2 are about three times the scope of a single story mission in the first game. And they twist and turn throughout; your gameplay is changing, your goals are changing… it will be a much more dynamic experience compared to last time.

Lots of fans and critics gave us the business on the story. When we took a look at what we had done last time, we said, ‘we can do way better than that.┬áSo story has been, from the very first day, one of the most important things that we wanted to improve in Borderlands 2.

Innovation through storytelling has been a popular trend in the industry lately, with games like Heavy Rain and Bioshock Infinite pushing the envelope on what games can be. Let’s hope Borderlands 2 helps to raise that bar even further when it launches next year.
