Wipeout 2048 Trailers Boost Onto the Web

The original WipEout hit the PlayStation back in 1995, and took place in the future of 2052, where society had taken up anti-gravity racing as the latest sport – sure sounds a lot better than baseball. WipEout 2048 is obviously a prequel to the original game, and takes place when the sport of anti-gravity racing is just beginning. As a result, players will be racing on mostly city streets, but don’t worry, the game will still have plenty of boost pads and vertigo inducing turns. Watch out for cross traffic in the latest trailers.

The first trailer for WipEout 2048 is chock-full of features. One of the most important features is the ability for WipEout 2048 players to compete against WipEout HD players. It is no big surprise that this feature will be available on day one. As compared to WipEout HD, 2048 will have 10 new tracks and 20 new ships. Additionally, players will be able to view those ships on real life surfaces using a sleek and sexy augmented reality feature. The game will also have a new remixed soundtrack featuring the original artists for the WipEout HD soundtrack. As for the social aspect, the game will utilize Near to let you compete against other gamers around you, and will have a similar feature to Burnout Paradise where the game will snap reaction pictures of the first and second place players and send the pictures to each other. It might not be the best combination to give others players access to your location and photo, but I’m sure nothing could go wrong.

The second trailer shows off some of the new tracks for WipEout 2048. The Vita may have a smaller screen, but there is plenty of detail in these tracks.
