Visceral Games Australia Closed by EA

In yet another sign of harsh economic times, even if the profitable gaming industry, Visceral Games Australia will be closed by EA. The studio was working on a new AAA title for the PS3 and 360 and housed 21 developers who will now be looking for new work.

This bad news had been mentioned this weekend by Kotaku and confirmed via a twitter message from the IGDA, or International Game Developers Association.

Confirmation of EA closing Visceral has been received 🙁 our best wishes to the 21 devs now out of a job #EAVisceral.

Visceral Games AU had contributed to games like Dead Space, Godfather 2, and Dante’s Inferno, but the main studio behind the games was Redmond-based Visceral Games. The Australian developers were working on an AAA game for the PS3 and 360 that DICE CEO and EA’s Games Label vice president Patrick Soderlund decided would not be profitable.

EA’s remaining two studios in Australia, Firemint and Iron Monkey, are thought to be OK. We hope the best for the 21 people who are losing their jobs and hopefully they find work sooner rather than later.
