Square Enix: Registration of Final Fantasy XIII-3 Domain is a Precautionary Measure

Some time ago, Square Enix registered the Final Fantasy XIII-3 domain name, which would ordinarily sound like the RPG giant was planning a second sequel to their PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title, Final Fantasy XIII. However, Square Enix has now claimed that this is not the case.

Square Enix public relations agent Akio Ofuji explained on the Square Enix Channel Radio Broadcast that the Final Fantasy XIII-3 domain name acquisition was a precaution by Square Enix’s US branch.

Ofuji had been contacted by a voice actress in Final Fantasy XIII-2, Asuka Nishi, who had been asked to do promotional work for the game by Square Enix. She contacted Ofuji and is said to have pleaded with him for a role in Final Fantasy XIII-3, claiming to have heard about the game’s existence from the Internet.

Ofuji had remarked that he had also heard about the domain registration on the Internet as well, but explained that the domain had been registered by Square Enix’s US office without Square Enix in Japan knowing that they had done so.

Final Fantasy XIII-3 may not be coming, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on January 31, 2012.
