Ni No Kuni Targeted North American Release Period Announced, Screenshots & Video Released

Namco Bandai has announced that they’ll be bringing cel-shaded RPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch exclusively to PlayStation 3 in Winter 2012.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a collaborative effort between LEVEL-5 (Professor Layton, Dragon Quest VIII, & Dragon Quest IX) and Studio Ghibli (My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away). LEVEL-5 developed the game and collaborated with anime creators Studio Ghibli for the characters and animations. The game’s music is composed by Joe Hisaishi, who composed scores for over one hundred films, including some of Studio Ghibli’s greatest works. The game will include both North American and Japanese voiceovers.

Ni No Kuni is the story of Oliver, a young boy who travels into a parallel world to become a magician in an attempt to bring his mother back from the dead. Oliver befriends and adopts many of the creatures in the parallel world, raising them to battle enemy creatures for him.

Namco Bandai has released four videos of the game, which show the Golden Grove, Ding Dong Well, and Sewers areas of the game. The first Golden Grove video shows the game’s combat and menu systems, while the second shows a boss fight. The Ding Dong Well video shows a town area. The Sewers video shows some combat and a boss fight. To see the videos, click on them below.

The screenshots released of the game show four different areas: Ding Dong Well, Golden Grove, Motorville, and Nevermore. They show cutscenes and various in-game shots. Art of main character Oliver and one of his companions, Drippy, is shown at the end.
