Mistborn: Birthright Announced For PS3, Xbox 360, PC & Mac

The fantasy novel series Mistborn from author Brandon Sanderson is getting a video game adaptation from Little Orbit called Mistborn: Birthright.

The Mistborn novels are set in a dark world dominated by a villain known as Lord Ruler. Also, the world of Mistborn features a magic system called “Allomancy” that temporarily enhances the physical and mental capabilities of its users by ingesting and “burning” flakes of metal. Allomancy users who can only burn a single metal are called Mistings and users who can burn all metals are known as Mistborn.

The game’s storyline has been created by Sanderson and is set several hundred years before the events of the first Mistborn novel. Players will control protagonist Fendin “Fiddle” Fathvell, an arrogant nobleman who must master his Allomancy abilities before his family is destroyed by outside forces.

No details on the genre of the game have been provided, but it’s said to have “a unique combat system” that allows gamers to use Allomancy.

Matthew Scott, CEO of Little Orbit, said:

I’m a huge fan of the series, and I cannot wait to get this into the hands of gamers. Between the distinctive magic system, the story twists Brandon has planned for the game, and the rich depth of character skills, we’re creating something very unique for players to enjoy.

Brandon Sanderson said:

As an avid gamer, I’m extremely excited by this opportunity. The chance to write the story for a Mistborn game while working with a team of talented developers is, quite literally, living a dream.

Mistborn: Birthright is currently scheduled to release in Fall 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac.
