XSEED Announces Way of the Samurai 4 Is Coming Exclusively To PS3 In North America

April 4, 2012 Written by Nick Michetti

XSEED has announced that Way of the Samurai 4 will be released exclusively in North America on PS3.

Originally released in Japan by Spike and Acquire (Sumioni, Shinobido), the “sandbox-style samurai period drama” will be released in North America fully uncut and uncensored on the PSN, according to the PS Blog. Lipschultz says that Way of the Samurai 4 includes “torture chambers, naughty midnight missions in the dark and all the brutal slaughtering you can handle.”

Lipschultz describes the game’s plot as the following:

Admiral Perry has just opened Japan’s borders to the British, allowing for a long-overdue globalization process to begin. Unfortunately, one of the open ports happens to be a modest Japanese burg called Amihama, where a resistance group known as the “Disciples of Prajna” have taken up arms against the arriving foreigners and all who support them.

As a lone samurai who’s just arrived amidst the chaos, it’s up to you whether you want to join forces with the Prajna resistance, fight alongside the foreigners in the name of progress or take your stance somewhere between the two by supporting the local government’s attempts to quell the violence (through any means possible).

However, players can also do the following: hit on all of the local women, deck out their samurai in customizable gear, use murder and deception to obtain positions of power, learn English to hang out with foreigners, or gamble in a gambling den or casino.

The game is said to offer players complete freedom to play the game however they wish, with possibilities that will defy their expectations, even to the extent of being nearly surreal.

No pricing or release date details were provided, but details are said to be coming soon.
