Details Emerge About Shinji Mikami’s Survival Horror Title “Zwei,” First Piece Of Concept Art Revealed

Some early details have emerged about Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s upcoming survival horror title, currently codenamed “Zwei.”

“Zwei” is in development at Mikami’s Tango Gameworks studio and marks the first game that he’s had full development involvement with since Vanquish. Mikami is “Zwei’s” executive director.

Mikami said that he selected survival horror as the game’s genre because he wanted to make a game that meets player expectations and that survival horror is the genre that he’s most adept at. He also listened to the opinions expressed during meetings with Tango parent company ZeniMax.

The game is still in an early stage of development, despite initial planning having begun at the end of 2010, but now that the game’s basics are coming together, development will be moving much faster.

The platform/platforms for the game still hasn’t/haven’t been finalized, but Mikami has said that it will likely release for HD consoles.

The official teaser site for “Zwei” has been launched with a piece of concept art and a message:

Our latest project’s codename is “Zwei” and it is a survival horror game.

The above image is a collage of different environments we put together for this announcement and is intended to give a feel for the tone and the direction the production is taking. (However, neither the code name nor the image is intended to tell you exactly what is in the game.)

As a master of the ‘survival horror’ genre, Shinji Mikami is committed to making a game that is the realization of pure survival horror, an experience which he defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration. He and his team at Tango are committed to attaining this vision.

The following quote from Mikami can also be seen on the site:

I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror. I am being very hands-on to see that the quality is there. Rest assured.
