Tomb Raider Delayed to 2013 to “Polish it to a Level That You Deserve”

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics announced earlier today that they have decided to push back the release of Lara Croft’s reboot to sometime early next year.

With the world’s largest gaming expo just a few weeks away, developers are updating the release windows for their games before the big show. As one would suspect, the bulk of these announcements have been disappointing, with Irrational Games delivering the unfortunate news last week that BioShock Infinite has been pushed to early 2012 as well.

While there are rumors currently circulating the web regarding why Ken Levine and his team at Irrational decided to push Infinite back, Crystal Dynamics has been very forthcoming with regards to why the have moved the Tomb Raider reboot to the first quarter of next year. On the official Tomb Raider blog, Darrell Gallagher, the head of development at Crystal explained:

We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve.

Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months.

He also went on to tout how ambitious this project has become, assuring gamers that the team is striving to “make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of.” Gallagher went on to tease gamers by and saying that they’ve got some exciting in-game content to reveal at E3.

We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.
