Bethesda Announces Doom 3 BFG Edition For PS3, Xbox 360, & PC

Bethesda has announced Doom 3 BFG Edition for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, marking the first time that a Doom title has been made available on PS3.

Doom 3 BFG Edition features remasters of both Doom 3 and its expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. The game also includes new content in the form of “The Lost Mission,” seven new levels said to provide hours of gameplay. Doom 3, RoE, and The Lost Mission have all been optimized in 3D, have 5.1 surround sound support, Achievement and Trophy support, improved rendering and lighting, and include a new checkpoint system to make it easier to progress in the game. The controls have been fine-tuned for both single player and multiplayer as well.

Doom 3 gamers who wished for use of the flashlight while shooting will be glad to know that Doom 3 will include an “armor-mounted flashlight” for that exact purpose.

As a special bonus, Doom 3 BFG Edition will also include both the original Doom and Doom 2 video games.

John Carmack issued the following comment:

DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release. Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.  New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is currently scheduled to be released for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC sometime this Fall.
