Kaz Hirai Steps Down From Position as SCE Chairman

Kaz Hirai, the current CEO and president of Sony has officially retired from his position as chairman and and representative director on the SCE board.

Instead, he will now serve as a part-time member of the board. There’s no doubt that Hirai has had a lot on his plate over the past few months, having just assumed his new role as president and CEO on April 1st on top of his other obligations. So just to be clear, Kaz is not leaving Sony, as he is still serving as the CEO and president. He is only dropping his duties as chairman and representative director of the PlayStation business.

In addition, Sony Corp. chairman Howard Stringer has retired from his part-time position on the board, while Hiroshi Kawano, the president of SCE Japan has been appointed to serve on the board. What all this shuffling might mean for the future of Sony is unclear at this point, but rest assured, Kaz Hirai still has big ambitions for PlayStation.
