BioWare Elaborates on Mass Effect 3’s Red Ending (SPOILERS)

Some serious stuff goes down at the conclusion of Mass Effect 3, and with the newly released Extended Cut DLC now available, fans have begun to question one ending in particular.

SPOILERS

Only those who chose the “Red Ending” and had their “Galactic Readiness” up to a high enough level received an extra little scene before the credits started to role. In a heap of rubble, Commander Shepard takes a breath, indicating that he is still alive. While this was also in the original, non-extended ending, BioWare added an extra bit of content that alludes to the commander’s survival, which Tully Ackland detailed on their official forums.

You may notice that in the ‘Shepard lives’ ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.

With “much more” DLC on the horizon, there’s a chance that players may actually get to resume the role of Shepard had they opted to go with the “Red Ending.” Would you like to see more Commander Shepard content in future add-ons, or have you moved on from the character and want something completely new?
