Gearbox Would “Love” to Bring Borderlands 2 to Vita

Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 is one of the most anticipated shooters of 2012. The game is currently only coming to consoles and PC, but studio boss Randy Pitchford would really like to bring it to the handheld space with the Vita as well.

While speaking at Rezzed – a show centered around PC and indie games – Pitchford expressed his desire to bring the game to Sony’s handheld. While the developer doesn’t have the time and resources to develop a fully fledged Vita title, the Gearbox head is hoping that Sony could take the reigns and implement PS3 connectivity with the cloud.

One of the things I wish Sony would do is get behind Borderlands, because I’d love to see a Vita version of the game. I want to be able to have the character I’m working on with my PS3, and then when I’m on the road with my Vita I can just keep developing that same character because it exists on the cloud somewhere.

Technologically, that’s possible.

He then asked the audience to request this of Sony, saying, “Perhaps some of you folks can convince Sony to start that,” Pitcher said. “We’re too busy to develop it ourselves. But I know there are a lot of talented developers who could take our code, our source and our content and perhaps create something like that.”

With dual analog sticks, a gorgeous screen and powerful tech under the hood, there’s a lot of potential for Borderlands on Sony’s handheld.
