Michael Fassbender to Co-Produce and Star in Assassin’s Creed Movie

Last year, Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft made it clear that they were serious about bringing their popular action franchise to the big screen after negotiating with Sony Pictures on making it a reality. While that deal fell through – with Ubi opting to take the independent route – they’ve already begun gearing up for production with Michael Fassbender at the helm.

According to Variety’s interview with Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ Jean-Julien Baronnet, the X-Men: First Class and Prometheus star will not only play as the film’s assassin, but also aid in its production. Fassbender was Ubisoft’s “first choice” for the role, Baronnet explained, adding that “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Ubisoft is clearly committed to expanding their franchises outside of the gaming realm, having brought us a Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal as well as a handful of Assassin’s Creed short films. The studio is also looking to bring Splinter Cell to the big screen and may even be looking to release a film adaptation of the recently announced Watch_Dogs.
