GameStop Contemplating Re-Sale of Digital Content

Retailer GameStop has said they’re contemplating the option of reselling digital content.

The firm’s CEO, Paul Raines, told GameSpot that second-hand digital sales is being considered by the retailer. However, for now, it’s not a “huge market”.

It’s very interesting. There are some technologies out there in Europe, and we’ve looked at a couple that are involved. We’re interested; it’s not a meaningful business yet. Right now we’re not seeing that as a huge market, but I think we’re on the leading edge. There are a few companies, a few start-ups, out there that we’ve talked to that are doing this.

Understandably, the firm ruled out naming any companies that they’re currently talking with regarding selling digital content, as they “wouldn’t want to disclose that and have competitors rushing in.”

A Europe court had earlier this month ruled that the users’ sale of second-hand software is protected.
