We haven’t seen traditional zombies in the past couple of Resident Evil titles, but Capcom is bringing them back with the sixth installment to appease the outcry of fans.
There’s no doubt that zombies are super popular right now, so it’d be foolish for Capcom to diverge from the classic undead monster any further than they have with Resident Evil 4 and RE5. As such, they are returning to form with RE6, serving up a true classic zombie experience.
In an interview with Siliconera, the game’s executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi explained that this was really a decision based on the opinion of fans, adding that while these are more traditional zombies, they’re still adding in a few twists to keep things fresh and exciting.
We tried to respond to the requests and put them in this game. We tweaked them a bit so they aren’t the same zombies you would expect.
The zombies when you first see them, they shamble around slowly. But, if they spot you or they get closer they break out into a sudden dash and try to grab you. We tried to make this as instantaneous as possible. Some of them will leap out at you. For the most part, they are zombies, but they have a bursts of energy here and there that give them a little extra oomph.
