Not only does Borderlands 2 serve as home to nearly 300 different enemy variants, but the intelligence of the game’s foes puts the studio’s first title to shame.
Jasper Foreman, the lead AI programmer at Gearbox Software spoke to Joystiq about the improvements that have been made to the enemy AI in Borderlands 2, pointing out that each class of enemies utilizes different strategies, forcing the player to stay on their toes at all times.
Not only that, but the game will feature a total of 15-20 separate enemy types, and among those, there are several variations as well, bringing the grand total of different enemy permutations to somewhere between 200 and 300. From the hulking Goliaths to the tiny Surveyors, you’ll come across foes of all shapes and sizes, each with their own set of strengths and weaknesses.
You’ll also want to keep an eye out for the worm-like Threshers, who like to burrow underground and attack you by surprise. The Marauders will also put up quite a fight, will a level of agility that makes them difficult to pin down. Check out the latest screenshots below for a closer look at these baddies.
