God of War’s Kratos was Originally Supposed to be Blue

According to David Jaffe, the creator of God of War, the series’ rage-filled protagonist was originally supposed to be blue, not red.

In the early designs for Kratos, blue warpaint covered his body, but after realizing how similar he appeared to be to Diablo II‘s barbarian, they made a quick color swap at the last minute, “literally days” before the game’s debut in 2005. “You can bet we changed it, lickity fuckin’ split,” Jaffe said on his blog, once again sparing no vulgarity.

What do you think about the last minute color change? Would Kratos really have looked too much like a Diablo character if he were blue? At the very least, he looks less angry and threatening with blue paint, which totally goes against his personality in the games.

If you want to make a character who’s incredibly violent and angry all the time, I’d say red would be the best color to reflect that. Agree? Disagree? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
