Best Fighting Game of 2012 Award

Winner: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

With the Super Smash Brothers games having been such a celebrated success, and Sony’s own stable of mascots growing significantly over the years; PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a game many PlayStation fans have ached for more and more as the years have gone by. So it should come as no surprise that Battle Royale takes PlayStation LifeStyle’s pick for best fighting game of 2012.

We’re honoring All-Stars today, not for being the “clone” we always wanted, but instead because Battle Royale offers an accessible, yet surprisingly deep combat experience that’s incredibly faithful to every franchise represented.

PlayStation All-Stars may ooze fan-service, and offer a fun, chaotic fighting experience, but it isn’t without its own (mostly superficial) issues ranging from a lack of “actual All-Stars” to a shallow UI. But, with such a solid, surprisingly competitive combat core, we were hard-pressed to dwell on these slight missteps, and instead find ourselves glued to the game, and unprecedentedly excited for what the future holds for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Runners Up:
