Guillermo del Toro on InSANE: “We are in Talks With a Very, Very Big Company”

If you’ve checked out the trailer for Pacific Rim, you would have no doubt heard the unmistakeable voice of GlaDOS (played by Ellen McLain) from the Portal franchise. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Guillermo del Toro, director of Pacific Rim, explained that he actually approached Valve for permission to use her voice in the movie, because he was such a big fan of the Portal games.

But perhaps the most important news to come out of that interview was him giving a status update on the upcoming Insane, which was cancelled back in August due to THQ’s financial woes:

We are in talks with a very, very big company. I can’t say who, but it’s one of the big ones. They really responded to the game, they responded to what we were trying.

Some of the devices of the game I need to update, because now I’ve seen them in other games that just came out. That always happens. But the principle we’re trying to do with the game is to make it a really immersive narrative experience. It’s still a really challenging proposal.

Last we had heard on the InSANE front back in November was an answer similar to this one, with del Toro saying that they “went to a great developer on the first meeting and it seems that they’re picking it up because they love the package.” It remains a mystery whether it’s the same company today who had that initial interest, but whatever the case, the game is still alive (sorry, I had to).

Who do you think that big company is? Let us know in the comments below.
