The Curious Case of Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault on PlayStation Vita

Yesterday, January 29th, marked the last PlayStation Store Update of January 2013, yet Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault Vita did not appear. Sony had previously tweeted that January 29th would be the release date of Full Frontal Assault, but, interestingly, that tweet has since been deleted.

So, we have to go back a little further and see that January 2013 is the latest official release date, though a seemingly innocent comment back in December by James Stevenson of Insomniac saying that it would arrive in “early 2013” may now have some more weight.

As expected, many people were confused and wondering what happened to the game, taking to both the PS Blog and Insomniac’s Twitter and Facebook page to ask when they can buy it, or download their free Cross Buy copy.

Looking at the PS Blog for questions about Full Frontal Assault’s absence first, Morgan Haro, Community Manager of PlayStation Digital Platforms, said, “I’ll dig in on this with the teams and see if we can get any info for you guys, but I don’t have any info on this on my end.” He then later added, “We’re going to look into the timeline on this game and keep you posted on any news.”

Both of those comments were posted yesterday and no update has been given about Full Frontal Assault.

As Insomniac, who have absolutely nothing to do with the Vita port, revealed yesterday the January 29th release date was actually a mistake and was never meant to be official, but last they heard, January 2013 was official.

Well, after enduring countless questions and reaching out to both developer Tin Giant and Sony about the Full Frontal Assault release date, and hearing nothing back, they issued this statement on their Facebook page (which has since been deleted):

Hey everyone,

We know you’ve been asking about and waiting for Full Frontal Assault for Vita.

Insomniac cannot make any comment about the game. We have repeatedly asked Sony and Tin Giant for an update to share with our fans. They have not provided any update we are allowed to share.

We are sorry for any disappointment, but there is nothing we’ve authorized to release publicly. Trust us in that we share your frustration, and have been passing your comments on to Sony, we also advise you contact Sony directly to share your disappointment and frustration.

As soon as they give us an update we can share with you, we will.

Thanks,

IG

If you were thinking of looking up Tin Giant to find a status update from them, they don’t have a Twitter, Facebook, or working website that we could find (prompting someone to ask if they even exist), though we did manage to find a LinkedIn page for Rob Wyatt, a Consultant at Tin Giant.

With it, he says the following about Ratchet & Clank:

For SCEA we produced the Ratchet and Clank HD collection on the Playstation3 (xplay remake of the year, 2012) as well the PS Vita version of Full Frontal Assault (released Jan 2013). Tingiant is also an SCEA Service Provider who provides general technical services to any Sony developer.

It’s hard to say when his page was last updated, but it at least proves Tin Giant is real and that they had planned on releasing the game in January 2013.

The latest piece of news comes in this comes via Insomniac’s Twitter account a few hours back, saying, “as soon as we have something we’ll post it.”

We’ve reached out to Sony for any new about Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and we’ll be sure to let you know what we hear back.
