Heavenly Sword Also Set to Have an Animated Film, Will be Direct to Video

An animated movie of Ratchet & Clank is set to hit theaters in 2015, but it’s not going to be the only Sony IP to get the CG film treatment – Heavenly Sword will be made into a movie as well.

In Variety‘s exclusive reveal post about the R&C movie, the site nonchalantly mentions that “Blockade is also producing “Heavenly Sword,” a CG-animated film that will be distributed direct-to-homevideo.” No date was given, but the budget and production values of the direct to video movie will presumably be less than that of the Ratchet & Clank adaptation.

Heavenly Sword released in 2007 while the PS3 was still struggling after a tough launch and, while the game managed to sell a million copies within a year, the franchise never saw any sequels. At one point, SCE Cambridge were working on Heavenly Sword 2, but it was ultimately cancelled, meaning that the movie will be the first meaningful update to the franchise since the original release.
