Shuhei Yoshida: “Never Say Never” to a PlayStation All-Stars Sequel, Insomniac Creating an Xbox One Exclusive is “Part of Growing up”

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, and his cheeks were on IGN’s podcast recently, where he talked about a variety of topics, with both Insomniac’s Xbox One exclusive title and the future of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale getting detailed here.

Starting off with Insomniac and Sunset Overdrive, Shuhei was asked how this sits with him, and he revealed that Ted Price and Sony have a long-standing relationship since the Spyro the Dragon days, and Shuhei believes that them wanting to invest in their own IP is “just their way of trying to step up.” Basically, he just feels Insomniac branching out is “part of growing up.”

Switching gears to PlayStation All-Stars, it clearly wasn’t the critical and commercial success everyone expected it to be. When asked about the game, Shuhei really hopes “there is a future for All-Stars,” he was happy with the game itself (such as the characters and world), and mentioned that it did “quite well” at “more than a million units globally. But it was not enough to have the momentum in terms of a business standpoint to continue to add characters or do a sequel.”

Giving a glimmer of hope for the franchise, he did add “never say never” when it came to the future of PlayStation All-Stars, saying he’d “like to see us come back to the idea,” but “maybe not the same mechanic.”

Do you think we’ll see another PlayStation All-Stars or something similar? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, Shuhei has 2 Wii U’s.
