General News

  • The Grand Theft Auto V gameplay reveal managed 7 million views from the Rockstar Games official channel in the first 24 hours, beating out the Michael/Franklin/Trevor trailer from a couple months ago already, but still shy of the nearly 20 million views for the 2nd official GTA V trailer from several months back and the immensely popular PS4 used game video, which is over 13 million views.   • The PlayStation 3’s YouTube app has an update now rolling out that will not only reduce buffering and smooth out video play, but also add in a send to TV feature. With this, you can open the YouTube app for PS3, click the TV icon on your YouTube app for Android or iPhone, and the video will start on the TV. Note: they need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.   • The PlayStationFirst Academic Development Programme is going to be sending out PS4 dev kits “as a follow on licensing programme to University members registered on the PlayStation Vita dev kit programme.” They list the Vita as the system most closely intergrated with the PS4 and “an essential part of the connected experience to create and innovate on PlayStation platforms.” If you’re interested, send an email to applications@ps-edu.scedev.net.   • A patch for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has gone live, introducing a garrison reset option. With this, once you conquer every garrison in your first run, you can then reset them and face the challenge all over again. [Press Release]
  • There are “no plans at this time” to put a PlayStation Mobile section in the Online Web Store, but that isn’t to say it won’t happen someday. [Source]
  • Mordu’s Challenge for DUST 514 starts tomorrow and ends on July 18th, offering up four separate challenges, which give you rewards upon completion. [Source]
  • The final three DLC characters for Runner2 include Spelunky Guy, Invisible CommanderVideo, and Atlas (Steam exclusive). [Source]
  • The Goodwood Hill Climb course has been confirmed for Gran Turismo 6 when the game launches later this year. [Source]
  • NIS has announced that Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness will release in Europe on September 27th and North America on October 8th. [Press Release]
  • Obscure, a downloadable game from Mighty Rocket Studio, has had its name changed to Final Exam, a decision the developers came to after hearing feedback about how it isn’t a “real sequel to the Obscure series.” Expect Final Exam to hit the PSN, XBLA, and PC in September. [Press Release]
