PS3 to PS4 Accessory Compatibility Detailed: DualShock 3 Doesn’t Work on PS4, USB Headsets Do After 1.50

As we’re just over two weeks away from the PlayStation 4 launch on November 15th in the United States and Canada, Sony has decided to release a Mega PS4 FAQ. Since it can be rather daunting and contains so much information, we’ll be breaking the important information we’ve yet to cover fully into separate posts, hopefully making finding what you need a little easier.

If you’d like to know exactly what PS3 accessories will be supported at PS4 launch, Sony has released a handy chart, which points out that DualShock 3 controllers and the PS3 Blu-ray remote won’t work, while the PlayStation Move will:

For PS3 peripherals such as fighting sticks and steering wheels on PS4, you will be able to use these controllers if a specific game title allows it to be used within the game. This decision is upon the game developer and will vary from game to game.

Here’s the compatibility you can expect from PS4 accessories:

In addition to the DualShock 4 and PlayStation Camera, other accessories available at launch include a PS4 Vertical Stand (MSRP is $14) and the DualShock 4 charging cradle (MSRP is $29.99).

When it comes to headsets, you’ll have to wait for a future system update before the PS4 supports the Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset and Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset Elite Edition. Furthermore, existing wireless headsets from third-party companies that use a Bluetooth connection will not be supported on PS4, though most USB headsets will be supported following PS4 system update 1.50.
