Analyst: PS4 is the Fastest Selling Console Ever, But Won’t Surpass Wii or PS2 Sales

With the PS4 at 2.1 million units sold as of December 1st, and the Xbox One at 2 million in the first 18 days, the analysts at DFC Intelligence have compiled a list of all the highest-selling consoles in their first two weeks, with the PS4 beating out the Xbox One, PS2, and Wii:

  • PlayStation 4 (November 2013) – 2.1 Million in North America and European markets
  • Xbox One (November 2013) – 2 Million in North America, Europe, Brazil, Australia
  • Wii (November 2006) – 1.6 Million in North America and Japan
  • PS2 (March 2000) – 1.4 Million in Japan

Even so early on in the generation, DFC believes the PS4 will be “the leading system of this generation,” while also agreeing with Andrew House’s comments of the PS4 being likely to outsell the PlayStation 3. However, DFC doesn’t think the PS4 will pass the Wii or PS2:

The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future. The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation.

Do you think the PS4 will one day plant itself between the PS2 and PS3 when it comes to lifetime console sales? Let us know in the comments below.
