Best PS3 Exclusive of 2013 Award

Winner: The Last of Us

While 2013 won’t be the last year of the PS3’s life, it was the year for it to show the world just what it was made of and what it had left to give. Throughout this generation, no developer has been more integral in pushing Sony’s console than the folks at Naughty Dog. They first demonstrated what the PS3 could do with the incredible Uncharted series and then, earlier this year, they launched a new IP with The Last of Us.

Over the last few years, the zombie/infected genre has become flooded and when we first heard that Naughty Dog was going to throw their hat into the ring, everyone was curious to see what they would do. Then, when we finally got to play through The Last of Us, not only did we discover an interesting world filled with believable characters and situations, it gave us a meaningful look at family, redemption and strength. Very few games hit the market that are able to give other industries a run for their money, some might be able to do something unique, while others just offer the production values, but The Last of Us seems to check every box while offering enough heart to move audiences world wide.

Runners Up:

  • Ni no Kuni
  • Gran Turismo 6
  • Beyond: Two Souls
