Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 PS4/Xbox One Version Not Planned, Game is 20-30 Hours Long

We’re just over a month away from the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC release date of February 25th/28th for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 from developer Mercury Steam. While there’s been no announcements yet of a PS4 or Xbox One version, Producer Dave Cox did talk in a roundtable (via GameSpot) about how the game engine was built with next-gen in mind:

The PC version is almost like a next-gen version. The limitations of the [Xbox 360 and PS3]… we can push that back. We designed the game engine for next-gen in mind. We knew that this would be the last game we did on current-gen, so in many ways the PC version is almost like a test run for us.

Cox’s comment may make you think a PS4 or Xbox One version from Lords of Shadow 2 could happen, but he shot that down by saying, “It would mean kind of taking five steps back,” when it comes to the game’s engine. However, Cox did add, “I suppose [contracting another studio to do the port is] not out of the question, but it’s not something that’s on our radar right now.”

Also, if you were thinking about picking up Casltevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Dave Cox did tell the PS Blog that a “focused” play through of the main story would take about 20 hours, while adding in side missions would put it near 30 hours.

For the future of Mercury Steam, Cox confirmed that the developer is working on a new project for PS4, Xbox One, and PC (but not Wii U) that will be “completely different” from Castlevania. Not much is known about this project, with Cox just adding, “It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Contra and I’d like to do something in that universe.”
