PS4 1.61 Firmware Update Out Now, is Mandatory

Two weeks after receiving firmware update 1.60 on PS4, Sony has now released firmware update 1.61, which is a mandatory download, but doesn’t include much in the way of changes.

Here’s the one update note:

  • System software stability during use of some features has been improved.

When asked for a little more information about 1.61, PlayStation Europe’s Chris Owen said, “It’s mainly back end stuff to improve stability. No new features as just a minor update.”

If you’re getting 1.61 through the internet on your PS4, it should have started automatically if your system is in standby, or it will start the next time you turn on your system. If you’re doing it through your computer with a USB stick, the UK site (the US site hasn’t updated with the details yet) says you’ll need at least 300MB free.

Head over here to download the update through the UK site on your computer, with the North American one right here.

Have you noticed any improvements after installing 1.61? Let everyone know in the comments below.
