The Crew Will Run at 1080p 30 FPS, Has a Microtransaction System, And Will Have a “Back to School” Release

The Crew will run at native 1080p, 30 frames per second on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One according to creative director Julian Gerighty. He also added that they are “really trying to get parity across all versions, so it’s something that’s important to us not to branch out and not do individual things for individual platforms.”

However, one thing that will be different between the two console versions will be use of the the PS4 controller’s touchpad. “Reflections is doing the PS4 version and they’re doing an incredible job on it,” Gerighty continued. “We’ll be using the trackpad to manipulate the map and stuff like that, so they’ve really pushed two or three different things there.”

Ubisoft has also confirmed that The Crew will have a mictrotransaction system, featuring a dual currency system for purchasing upgrades with Crew Credits, which are earned through racing and completing missions, and real money.

“We can confirm that performance parts can be unlocked through progression as well as microtransactions,” a Ubisoft representative told VideoGamer. “All content can be unlocked through progression, but for busy gamers who want to save some time, they will have the opportunity to buy some items in-game.”

According to Gerighty everything in the game uses this currency approach but players will not be prevented from progressing if they choose to not spend any money.

The Crew will be launching this year and will have a “back to school” release according to Ubisoft, likely pegging the release date around August or September.
