Mark Zuckerberg Tried Project Morpheus Shortly Before Announcing Oculus VR Acquisition

One week before Facebook officially announced their purchase of Oculus VR for $2 billion on March 25th, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tried out Project Morpheus – Sony’s VR headset that was revealed on March 18th.

This revelation comes from PlayStation Marketing Executive Guy Longworth, who said during a Games Marketing Summit 2014 session (via GameSpot) that Zuckerberg asked, “Can I have a tech demo?” for Project Morpheus. We don’t know exactly why Zuckerberg wanted a tech demo, but Longworth did add, “I wish he bought ours,” when asked about the now FTC approved sale (via Reuters) of Oculus VR to Facebook.

Longworth then said:

If you think about VR, not just in terms of gaming, I think wearable technology is a huge trend that’s going to continue. I think that being able to have experiences that are truly deep and immersive… that it somehow makes you feel you are there… is something that people want. If you could really deliver that in the future, that would be huge.
